2019 Man of the Year: Doug Sienna

The Knights of Columbus, DeSoto Council 6 of Cromwell has selected Douglas A. Sienna as the 2019 Cromwell Man of the Year. The Man of the Year award is presented to a man who has distinguished himself through contributions to the community.

There will be a ceremony to unveil the Man of the Year plaque in Cromwell Town Hall Lobby on February 8, 2019 at 2:00PM, followed by a reception at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 573 Main Street, Cromwell at 6:00PM. Tickets for the reception are $20 and are available from Mark Walsh (860) 306-2219 or Tom Tokarz (860) 250-5991. A light buffet begins at 6:00 with awards program at 7:00 PM

2018 Man of the Year: Mark Walsh

Walsh is an active member of the Knights of Columbus, DeSoto Council No. 6, is a past grand knight and past trustee of the council and now chancellor. He is also on the Cromwell Republican Town Committee.

One of his greatest passions is working with the Middlesex Chapter of Habitat for Humanity.  He completed a full build in Portland, has worked on a recently completed home renovation in Middletown. Walsh is a parishioner at St. John Church in Cromwell, where he is an usher on Sundays, and assists monthly with the collection of food and the delivery to the Amazing Grace Food Pantry.

2017 Man of the Year: Tony Gumkowski

Over the many years he has lived in Cromwell, Tony has donated his time and efforts in areas such as Cromwell youth sports, Cromwell youth recreation, Cromwell youth scouting, Cromwell civic projects, Cromwell humanitarian programs.  

Tony is a parishioner at St. John Church in Cromwell where Tony volunteers his time and talent.  He currently serves as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister and Usher.  He has also taught CCD at St. John Church. Tony is an active member of the Knights of Columbus, DeSoto Council No. 6 in Cromwell.  He is a Past Grand Knight of DeSoto Council No. 6 and currently serves as one of its trustees.

2016 Man of the Year: Allan Spotts

Al’s participation in Cromwell activities began over twenty years ago when he was a Cub Scout Leader, served as the Assistant Manager of the Cromwell Little League concession stands and volunteered his time to the Cromwell Youth Football program.  In 1999, Al volunteered on the Cromwell Anniversary Committee until 2001, and has been either the Chair or the Co-Chair of the Cromwell Riverport Festival from 2001 to the present, both orchestrating and working the event...

2015 Man of the Year: Al Waters

Al has been the Commodore of the Cromwell Boat Club for the past thirty-three years and was instrumental in the reconstruction of the dock and launch site. He is a member of the Cromwell Historical Society, helping to preserve the historical landmarks of Cromwell. Al also volunteered at the Cromwell Senior Center, serving meals to the elderly and going out to the store to pick up food and supplies. Over the years, it has become a popular spot for Cromwell High School Seniors to complete their service hours...

2014 Man of the Year: Michael "Jay" Polke


Over the years, Jay has participated on numerous committees and in many organizations. Jay is a member of Cromwell’s Substance Action Council, which helps create a safe graduation party for Cromwell High School’s Senior Class each year, and discourages the youth community from drinking, smoking and taking drugs.  Jay is also a member of the Cromwell Economic Development Committee, which has succeeded in bringing several small businesses and corporate parks to town, creating jobs for citizens, was a member of the Cromwell Charter Revision Committee from 2010 to 2011, developing the Town Manager form of government, and is a member of the Middlesex Chamber of Commerce...
